What is Botox?

Botox injections are the most widely used treatments to improve and reduce lines of the face and neck. It is a prescription only medication and its use ranges from aesthetic treatments to treating certain medical conditions.

It is a simple, effective treatment which can be provided in clinical settings by a trained practitioner.

The toxin is derived from a bacteria Clostridium Botulinum. It is diluted and injected directly into the muscles in appropriate doses, which relaxes the muscle and stops it contracting. Here at KM Medical Aesthetix Clinic we use Botox by Allergan.

The injections are generally painless and can be administered without the use of anaesthetic creams.

Every patient is requested to give a detailed medical history, including the list of their medications. Photos are taken before and after the treatment.

What can I expect after my Botox treatment?

At the injection site there might be some redness, swelling and bruising. No changes are expected immediately, results are gradual and evident after 24-72 hours post injections. The treatment can last up to 2 – 4 months. A small number of patients develop resistance to the drug and therefore, the duration of the effect can be highly reduced.

Side effects and contraindications to receiving the toxin are discussed in detail by the clinician prior to treatment. After care instructions are given post treatment which are simple and easy to follow.
